Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference and therefore we need to be able to understand the impact on early life, childhood and adolescence as well as your day to day life as an adult.
Ideally, we would include an interview with a parent / carer who can help us to gain a picture of early life. It is often helpful to have the input from someone who knows you well in the here and now, such as a sibling or partner.
We use specific assessment tools such as the ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview- revised) the DISCO (Diagnostic Interview for Social And Communication Disorders) or the DASI (Diagnostic Autism Spectrum Interview). We can discuss with you prior to your appointment who would be the best person in your network to be included for this part of the assessment.
The informant interview will take place during a 2-hour face to face clinic. One clinician will be with the individual and one with the informant.
